GOING GREEN: SUBARU AUTOMOTIVE PLANT, WOLF PARK, PURDUE UNIVERSITY,
TWIN ROCKERS HANDMADE PAPER & THE BENTON COUNTY WIND FARM

Tuesday—Wednesday, June 29-30

While ‘going green’ is all the current rage our neighboring state to the west has been on the fore front for years. Join us as we explore the future technology here today. We begin with an informative guided tour of the expansive BENTON COUNTY WIND FARM now generating clean energy and new jobs for the area. Then a ‘howling’ good time as we visit the WOLF PARK where staff invite us up close and personal with these amazingly resourceful and shy ‘canine’ carnivores. The next morning we head to SUBARU OF INDIANA Lafayette assembly plant where our guided tour demonstrates their commitment to building not only energy efficient vehicles, but in an environmentally friendly way, including being the first U.S. auto plant to be designated a Backyard Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation. Then we’re off to Purdue University, headquarters of Purdue Solar Racing (PSR). This student organization is committed to building and racing competitive solar powered vehicles and recently won the 2009 Shell Eco-Marathon with an energy usage equivalent to 4,913 miles per gallon! We won’t forget the environmentally friendly enterprises of two family run businesses— TWIN ROCKERS HANDMADE PAPER COMPANY where we watch the process of turning cotton rags into the delicate papers still used today at the Library of Congress and by artists nationwide, and CLAY CRITTERS where handmade clay magnets imitate wildlife with whimsical animal characters. A chance to learn something new—a step toward the future that’s in the daily news today.
