COVERED BRIDGES OF INDIANA: CLABBER GIRL, EXOTIC FELINE RESCUE CENTER.
ST. MARY’S OF THE WOODS & HOME OF ‘BEN HUR’ AUTHOR LEW WALLACE
Tuesday—Thursday, October 19-21

One of MKL’s most popular itineraries IS BACK—but with all new attractions! While still based with our friends at the renovated Walden Inn and including our memorable luncheon picnic in a covered bridge we now include jaunts to nearby Terre Haute where our tour of CLABBER GIRL BAKING POWDER MUSEUM explores the development of this kitchen staple, including a culinary demonstration, then a guided tour of the SISTERS OF PROVIDENCE CENTER and lunch. Next we’re off for a ‘walk on the wild side’ with a visit to the EXOTIC FELINE RESCUE CENTER, sanctuary now to over 180 exotic cats. The following day takes us a bit north to the home of author LEW WALLACE, author of the internationally acclaimed Ben Hur, as we enjoy a guided tour of his home and museum. Then onto the OLD JAIL MUSEUM built in 1882 and one of only seven round jailhouses in the country. The system of a rotating turntable of cells seemed to make sense as the guide shares with us this unique architectural landmark, along with the adjoining sheriff’s residence. Plenty of time to enjoy the autumn romance and tranquility of rural scenery and covered bridges tucked away, along with maybe a bit of early holiday stocking stuffer shopping at Rockville’s 5&10 GM VARIETY STORE recently featured in Midwest Living. If you’ve been with us before you know the draw of Hoosier hospitality. A remarkable autumn we hope to share with you in this remarkably diverse area of our favorite state.
