Day 4

8:30 AM Arrive at Magnolia Plantation & Gardens/ Guided house tour & tram ride through gardens

This 500 acre estate was acquired in 1676 by the Drayton family, who's heirs own it to this day. The stately house now present is the third to reign after the loss of two earlier houses to fire and war. After the loss of his plantation house in the Civil Was, the Rev. John Drayton, disassembled this house, and barged it 14 miles down the Ashley River to rebuild it on the burned-out first brick floor of its predecessor. The 50 acre garden contains 900 varieties of camellias, 250 types of azaleas and hundreds of other flowers, providing year round color. Highlights include Biblical & topiary gardens, an antebellum cabin, and 16th century horticultural maze.

Home to the oldest landscaped gardens in American originally begun in 1741 by Henry Middleton, later president of the First Continental Congress. Restored stableyard has working displays of plantation activities. The house, originally a guest wing, became the family residence after the main house was burned during the Civil War.

2:00 PM Depart for Drayton Hall

Built in 1738 by John Drayton, this mansion remained in the family for 7 generations. The plantation house is an outstanding example of Georgian Palladian architecture, and having never been modernized with plumbing or electricity is virtually in the original condition.

Day 5

9:00 AM Guided tour of historic Savannah & surrounding area

Tour highlights to include: Old Fort Jackson; Tybee Island; Factors Walk, the Cotton Exchange, Trustees Garden, Colonial Park Cemetery, and the Juliette Gordon Low home.

Noon Lunch at Lady & Son's Restaurant

Located in restored cotton warehouse on City Market, featuring mouthwatering buffet of Low Country Southern dishes, such as fried chicken, cheese biscuits, and glazed baked ham.. . incredible desserts!

1:15-4:45 PM Guided Savannah tour continues

5:00 PM Return to Hampton Inn for brief R&R

6:15 PM Depart for Farewell Dinner at the Gingerbread House

Considered one of the most outstanding examples of Steamboat Gothic gingerbread carpentry in the US, built in 1899, and now one of Savannah's most photographed private residences. Home of Herbert & Jan Galloway.
